ERTAN BARUT – SHORT BIOGRAPHY

Education: Graduated from Ankara University, Faculty of Science, Department of Geological Engineering in 1983, and later studied at Anadolu University, Faculty of Economics (Open Education Faculty).

Professional Sector Career: Entered the IT sector in 1985 and worked in various IT and software companies. Founded GLOBAL Internet Technologies in 1999 and GLOBALNET Software in 2011, currently serving as the General Manager of these companies.

He is also an angel investor partner in the startup firm BaseCope CopeTract (BlockChain base Smart Contract CLM Software Company).

Civil Society Involvement: Joined the Turkish Informatics Association (TBD) in 1995, later becoming a member of TOBB Turkish Software Council, Software Industrialists Association (YASAD), BİYESAM Professional Union, and Linux Users Association.

Held numerous roles in NGOs, particularly in software-focused areas, including chairing working groups on local software and software exports, serving on management, supervisory, and executive boards, and participating as a jury member and project evaluation committee member for project competitions. Former vice president, elected President of TOBB Turkish Software Council in February 2021, currently serving in this role.

Press/Media: Since the fall of 2023, has been writing in the column titled “Software Desk” for Dünya Economy and Politics Magazine, covering all topics related to the sector.

Advisory Board and Representative Memberships: Member of the Industrial Advisory Board for Software Engineering at Atılım University and the Advisory Board for Computer Engineering at Gazi University. Also, chairs the Specialization Commission on Information and Communication Technologies for the 12th Development Plan, representing TOBB Turkish Software Council in MYK, KİK, and many other institutions.

Awards:

  • 2021: Awarded “35 Years of Service in the Turkish IT Sector” by BTHABER.
  • By Protokol Magazine’s 2nd European Awards “Achievement Award in IT and Technology”.
  • 2023: Awarded by YASAD Software Industrialists Association, “Special Award for Contribution to the Protection and Globalization of Local Software” at the 50th anniversary special night of the software sector on the 100th anniversary of the Republic.
